Make Day of the Dead Sugar Skull Decoration

    Your creative buddy says:
"Are you as excited to make this as I am?"

Step 1: Print and Color Your Skulls

    May need grown-up help
Ask a grown-up to help you print 4 copies of the sugar skull template onto white paper. Use your crayons, markers, or paints to color each skull. You can make them all look different or all the same!

Step 2: Cut Out Your Skulls

Carefully cut out each of the 4 colorful sugar skulls.

    Step 3: Fold Your Skulls

Fold each of your cut-out skulls in half, from top to bottom. Make a nice crease in the middle.

Step 4: Make a Yarn Tassel

Ask a grown-up to help you wrap white yarn around your hand about 15 to 20 times. Carefully slide the yarn off your hand. Cut a long piece of white yarn, about as long as your arm. Slide this long piece through the middle of the wrapped yarn and tie a tight knot. This will be the hanger. Cut another shorter piece of white yarn, about 8 inches long. Tie this piece around the bundle of yarn, just below the first knot. Now, cut the loops at the bottom of the yarn bundle to make it fluffy, and trim it so it looks neat.

Step 5: Glue Your Skulls Together

Take one folded skull and put glue all over one of its halves. Place a second folded skull right on top of the glued half. Press them together. Do this again with the third skull, gluing it onto the second. Do it one more time with the fourth skull, but do not glue the very last half yet!

Step 6: Add the Tassel and Hanger

Take the long string from the top of your yarn tassel and place it in the middle of your stacked skulls. Put glue on the last unglued half of the skull stack. Press it down to close the stack, making sure the string is tucked inside and the tassel hangs out the bottom. Tie a knot at the very top of the long string to make a loop. Now you have a hanger for your colorful sugar skull decoration!
