About This Project

A 40–60 minutes craft for ages 3–12, using supplies you likely already have — Scissors, Modeling Clay, and Rolling Pins.

GlueStick supports kids from setup to cleanup. After they choose a project, we guide them through gathering the supplies, making it, and cleaning up when they're done. We'll even help them share it safely with trusted family and friends.

Ad-free and kid-safe library — designed by a mom who wants kids to explore and create independently.

Make DIY Clay Flower Pot Decorations Kid Craft

    Your creative buddy says:
"I can't wait to make a project with you!"

    Step 1: Cut straws

Cut the straws to the size you want your vase to be. The longer the straw, the taller your vase will be.

Step 2: Roll clay and wrap straw

Roll the clay flat. You may need to work it with your hands first to get it soft enough to work with. Then, wrap the clay around the straw. If we rolled the straw and clay on the table the clay became loose so we rolled it carefully in our hands and then the clay stayed close to the sides of the straw.

Step 3: Close straw end and add base

Close one end of the straw with clay. Add a base so the vase can stand up. Make sure it is closed tight so the vase can hold water. You can decorate the vase with clay pieces and designs, but don't paint it yet.

    Step 4: Bake the clay

    May need grown-up help
Put the vase on a glass dish. Ask an adult to help you bake the clay according to the package directions. Let it cool down before moving to the next step.

    Step 5: Paint the vase

    May need grown-up help
After the vase cools, you can paint it. Let the paint dry. Now you can fill the vase with flowers!
