About This Project

A 5–15 minutes craft for ages 3–6, using supplies you likely already have — Beads, Marbles, and Paper Clips.

GlueStick supports kids from setup to cleanup. After they choose a project, we guide them through gathering the supplies, making it, and cleaning up when they're done. We'll even help them share it safely with trusted family and friends.

Ad-free and kid-safe library — designed by a mom who wants kids to explore and create independently.

    Make What's that sound?

    Your creative buddy says:
"Are you as excited to make this as I am?"

    Step 1: Gather your supplies

Make sure your glass jar is clean and dry. Find a quiet spot for your experiment. Gather a variety of objects. Coins, small toys, spoons and other household objects work well along with the other items suggested. Get creative!

Step 2: Make all sounds one time

One person drops an object into the jar while others listen carefully. Drop every object at least one time so everyone playing can hear it. When objects hit the jar, they create vibrations. These vibrations travel through the air as sound waves. Your ears catch these waves and send signals to your brain and your brain turns these signals into the sounds you hear! Different objects make different sound waves, which is why they sound different. Observe: - Is the sound loud or soft? - Does it bounce or thud? - Is it a quick sound or does it echo? - Is the object hard or soft? How will that change the way it sounds? - Is the object metal, wood, plastic or something else? Do things made of similar materials sound similar?

Step 3: Use your powers of observation

Now that you've heard all the sounds once, have everyone but the sound maker turn around or wear a blindfold. Can you guess what the sound is?
