    Make Colorful Sock Puppets

    Your creative buddy says:
"Are you as excited to make this as I am?"

    Step 1: Plan your puppet

Try your sock on your hand. Move your fingers up and down so you can see where the mouth will be. Use your marker to add dots for where you want the eyes to be.

    Step 2: Make the hair

To make the hair, cut one piece of yarn about 10-12" long. For short hair: - Lay your piece of yarn flat across your hand from your palm to your finger tips. - Wrap the rest of your yarn at least 25 times around your hand. The more times you wrap it the fluffier your hair will be. - Slide the yarn off your hand, being careful to make sure your 10-12" piece of yarn stays in the middle of your yarn loops. - Tie the center piece of yarn tightly around your yarn. This will be the part of your puppet's hair. - Use your scissors to cut the looped yarn in half. For longer hair: - Use the technique above, but wrap it around a wider piece of cardstock or cardboard. The wider your loops, the longer your hair will be.

    Step 3: Attach the hair

HOT! Grown-up required May need grown-up help
Option 1: Use Hot Glue Carefully use hot glue to attach the hair to the top of your puppet along the part. Option 2: Sew the hair on Using your needle and more yarn, sew the hair to the top of your puppet's head.

    Step 4: Add the eyes

HOT! Grown-up required May need grown-up help
Option 1: Use hot glue to glue the eyes on to the marks you made in step 1. Option 2: Use a needle and thread to attach buttons for eyes.

Step 5: Put on a show!

Give your puppet a name and a fun voice. Crouch behind the couch or table or make a puppet stage from an old sheet or cardboard box. Make up a story and perform it.
