Cut your pieces
To make your airplane, you'll need one large strip of paper for the body. We cut ours about 2.5 inches wide and about 8 inches long, but you can experiment with what works for you! From the same piece of paper, cut a tail shape. It should look like a triangle with a flat top.
For the wings, we cut one long strip of another paper about 1 inch wide and 8 inches long. For the propeller, we cut one long skinny strip.
Shape your wings
To make the wings, cut your long strip in half.
On one half, cut triangles from each side to angle the wings.
On the other half, trim it to be slightly skinnier. This piece will be your tail. Cut triangles from each side to angle it, too.
Make the body
To make the airplane body, loop the large strip of paper over and use a glue stick to glue it down. If you don't have a glue stick, you can also use a stapler or white glue.
Glue on the tail
Glue the tail on to the back of your loop, lining up the edge with the back of the plane's body. Make sure the widest part of your tail is to the back.
Glue on the wings
Next, glue on the wings. To avoid squishing your airplane, put the glue on the wings first, then gently press it on to the body.
Make the propeller
To make the propeller, cut your skinny strip in half and make an X. Glue it together. If it seems too big for your airplane, you can trim the propeller blades. We like to trim them to the same length before we glue them to make it easier to keep them the same length.
Glue on the propeller
Use your glue stick to glue the propeller to the front of the airplane.
(Optional) Add some sparkle!
We added a rhinestone sticker to our propeller to make it look fancy. You could draw a dot with a marker, use a brad or push pin, or just leave it plain.
Fold the tail flap
To make the tail, first fold the bottom of your triangle shape up to make a flap.
Cut a slit for the tail
The tail piece will slide into a slit in the back of the airpland. Use a scissors to carefully cut a slit slightly longer than your tail piece. We held ours against the airplane to make it easier to get just the right length.
Glue the tail on
Slide your folded tail piece into the slit and glue the flap to the bottom of your airplane.
Swoosh!
You're all done! Take your airplane for a swoosh!
